Turntable Tuesday! This week Andrew talks with John Hurlbut about the brand new limited edition release “The River Flows” from John and Jorma Kaukonen!

It’s Turntable Tuesday…because life is too short not to listen to great music! Turn that TV OFF and listen to some music on your local speaker! Remember vinyl is awesome but it never gets better than live music. Keep the faith people live music is coming back and we will celebrate that day together. Before you even start reading I would encourage you to go buy the new John Hurlbut and Jorma Kaukonen “The River Flows” vinyl for your collection. This limited edition 1500 piece vinyl album released on Record Store Day as an exclusive Black Friday offering. I should mention that my vinyl copy came from a favorite record shop in Manhattan and was shipped to me on Record Store Day which was the day after Thanksgiving.

There are vinyl copies as a part of this pressing now in stock at the Fur Peace Ranch store at: https://www.furpeaceranch.com/store/index.php?cPath=79. Know that this album is a limited pressing and may be sold out even as you read this as thousands of people watch the Saturday night Fur Peace Ranch You Tube stream each week and that could cause every copy of this record to get purchased in short order. The vinyl will followed by additional release of the CD and digital download on Christmas Day 2020. I suggest you buy a copy of this recording for you and one for a good friend. This is one great album!

John is the rhythm guitar player on this album and my guest on the podcast this week. John is also the long-time camp manager at the Fur Peace Ranch. John knows his music so listen in for more details this week on the podcast!
The fabulous red splatter vinyl….what is not to like? Even the vinyl labels are unique.

My copy of “The River Flows” before I opened it on one of my 100 year old piano stools. Note the “OBI” which is a Culture Factory Signature Spline Folder telling you all about the package.
The back cover of the album. The photos in this package are glossy and very stunning! Even the vinyl sleeves are glossy photos…
A quote from the album cover.

John Hurlbut and I spent almost two hours talking about the Fur Peace Ranch and all about this album track by track on the companion podcast. This album is likely a product of an unfortunate pandemic year but there are always good things that happen in hard times. I have really enjoyed all 30 of the Fur Peach Ranch live streams this year. The Saturday night streaming concerts and this album are some of the positive things that have come out of 2020. The sequencing on this album is perfect, the song selection is incredible, and the production is spot on. Drummer Justin Guip who plays with “Electric Hot Tuna” recorded the album and did a fantastic job. Of course coming from a guy has won three Grammy awards working with Levon Helm I would expect something special. Justin delivered. http://justinguip.com/

I want to add that this record is volume one. There were fourteen tracks recorded in these sessions and there are eight on this record. Six more tracks are coming in a separate release by the middle of 2021 as “volume two” as it stands today.

I am not going into detail about the tracks on this album here on the web page but you really should listen into the podcast to hear all the details of this stellar record as we go track by track and discuss all of the stories about the song selection as well as the background for the entire project for almost two hours! This is a great addition to any music collection. Go get a copy of this vinyl album now if you still can! Don’t forget Santa is bringing the cd copies and downloads on Christmas Day which is less than two weeks away.

Until next time I’ll see you, down the road.
