The Vaughan Brothers “Family Style” on Turntable Tuesday!

It’s Turntable Tuesday because life is too short not to listen to great music! Tonight I opened the box set called Stevie Ray Vaughan “Texas Hurricane.”

Inside this awesome boxed set vinyl collection is the album that Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmy Vaughan recorded called “Family Style.” The album was released in September of 1990 which was just a month after Stevie tragically died in a helicopter crash up in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin.

While the album was a not a big commercial success it did reach number 7 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. I remember when this album came out and I went down to the record store to buy it in a cd form as vinyl was not selling well at the time given the recent digital media boom. The promotion posters were on the wall and I was still reeling from the loss of Stevie Ray the month before. I asked if I could have a promotion poster for this album and to this day it hangs in my audio listening room as you can see in the photo below.

Two sides and ten tracks later this album is already finished playing on my turntable. This was a great album to go down memory lane with. September, 1990 was almost 30 years ago as I write this! Wow how time flies! So turn that TV OFF!! Crank up some vinyl and live while you can and don’t forget to help your favorite musicians out by buying music and their merchandise! See ya next week.
