Fred Tackett and Paul Barrere!!

Paul Barrere. One of the best.
Fred and Paul. This photo was taken in Winston Salem at Ziggy’s.

Well last night after a very long week in the corporate world and getting up well before light I decided to go drive over an hour to see what turned out to be worth every damn minute of my toll in the direction of the venue that held Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett. These are the guys I think of as part of the core of one of the best bands of this past century called Little Feat. Never mind we are fourteen years into this century. This band was as one of the songs go…the “Rock and Roll Doctors.” On this night I was able to see these guys play together as only people who have been together for years can do. I was thinking as they were playing, this is really worth much much more than I payed. What a freaking bargain. The experience of the last several decades and masters on strings watching each other and playing as they are one.

Did I mention they started with my favorite Feat song? I remember this one from the live performance in Jackson, Mississippi in the late 1970’s when Lowell was playing with them not to mention WZZQ FM Jackson rocking it on my car stereo. I still love the song “Skin it Back” to this very day.

I watched Fred and Paul closely through the show and I have many photos of the smiles and little looks that say “I know where you are going and I am going to rock this.”  You can tell thee guys love each other and the crowd loves them even more. That is what is awesome about music. The love and the feeling of the moment when it is played live and you are there. Long may we run!

With that I am leaving you with a song lyric and only one of my photos from the evening although I should probably share more. I captured a few really cool ones from a few feet away.

Until next time, I’ll see you, down the road.

Well I’m waitin’ for something to take place
Something to take me away from this race
‘Round city to city, town to town
Runnin’ around in the shoes of a clown
And that desperate, no count, desperado
A thief of love, my business is the street
I be shakin’ ’em down
In old Colorado
Texas she’s nice, but Georgia’s oh so sweet
Steal away with me darlin’ your lovin’ just can’t be beat
So it seems that the world keeps on turnin’ but so what
I don’t doubt it, it just keeps on the move
You’re a dream, and that’s all that I ask for
So well now, I’m wonderin’ just how I’m gonna tell it to you
Skin it back (skin it back)

Somethin’ real, somethin’ to feel
I can’t find a soul who’ll take on this mess
It’s those rock and roll hours, early graves without flowers
Please, please darlin’ put my mind at rest
I’m beggin’ please darlin’ put my mind at rest
So it seems that the world keeps on turnin’ but so what
I don’t doubt it, it just keeps on the move
You’re a dream, and that’s all that I ask for
So well now, I’m wonderin’ just how I’m gonna tell it to you

Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
Skin it back tell it to you
