Charlotte, North Carolina. Alice Cooper with KISS co-founder Ace Frehley.

Thursday, October 7, 2021 which was one day short of being exactly three years since I saw Alice Cooper play a live show back in 2018. Maybe the tour is scheduled for the Halloween season? Whatever the case may be I will say that I enjoy a good Alice Cooper rock and roll show. I like the entertainment of all the stage and effects as well as the music is great rock and roll. Having grown up with this music I know all the hits and have most of the vinyl albums some of which have gotten quite rare! I still remember hearing “Only Women Bleed” riding down a highway before I could drive with an older friend as we listened to WZZQ in Jackson, Mississippi. That memory is forever burned into my brain for some reason. Alice played that song during the 2018 show and I really enjoyed it.

An iPhone photo of the Ace Frehley show.

So Ace came out and rocked the crowd for a while. It was a fun show with a moment where he played a Led Zeppelin cover of “Good Times, Bad Times.” Given he is a co-founding member of “KISS” naturally he played mostly “KISS” songs like “Strutter,” “Detroit Rock City,” “Cold Gin” and a list of others totaling twelve songs. There was even one “Mountain” song in there called “Never in My Life.” His band was good and the show was fun. The crowd was loving the rock music and the night was just beginning.

Alice came out and totally put on a non-stop rock show complete with his normal blood-stained wardrobe, stabbings, giant creatures walking on stage, straight jackets, crutches, a full size guillotine and beheading on stage…standard Alice Cooper props and things that make you smile because you know it it theater. It is amazing that the now 73 year old rocker can change costumes constantly and do all of this while playing a full on rock show for well over 90 minutes. The man started 5 minutes EARLY at 8:55 PM and played 22 songs non-stop then added two more for an encore! One of my favorites was ‘Rock and Roll” from the “Velvet Underground” that was tucked into the set list. The encore was great with “Schools Out” and the finale that was a snippet of “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2” from Pink Floyd. “Teachers leave our kids alone” mates up quite well behind “Schools Out.” Alice played the hits and did it well. The Music Factory amphitheater is a mid-sized facility and it was quite full for this show. Would I go again? Yes I would. I hope there are more Alice Cooper tours soon and the 70 plus year old rockers stay healthy. Keep on playing golf Alice we need you healthy for another “shock theater.”

Until next time I’ll see you, down the road.

There are many videos on the internet of these shows but there is nothing like being there. Keep on rocking Alice.
